If there’s one thing we need to do in this life, it is to raise the anchor and set sail; get out of our comfort zone and rediscover the feeling of being with the new, with nature, with the simple.

That was the script of my weekend, sailing at Guaiba and seeing the city I live in from another angle. Even without the sea, Porto Alegre provides us the possibility of contact with water: a wide and extensive river that embraces us with a beautiful sunset in the evening.

I don’t know how to sail a boat (yet!) but the contact with the water, the wind and the power of nature invigorates me and transforms any ride into an adventure. In fact, that’s what life demands of us every day, a little courage to turn everything into adventure.

Much is learned at sea. Since I started practicing aquatic sports I came across many fears, some challenges, some difficulties, but mostly I learned to deal with all of them (for better or worse). There’s a saying that a “calm sea never made a good sailor” – when we leave the water we leave safer and more courageous in dealing with the small storms of routine. The water and the wind and are uncontrollable variables and we have to adjust ourselves to use them to our advantage just like in life.

So, as I said at the beginning, if there’s one thing we need to do in this life, it is to raise the anchor and set sail.
